Kuelap fortress with cable car
La fortaleza de Kuélap is the largest and most important stone archaeological monument in the northwestern Andes. It was an impressive pre-Inca religious, military, political, and administrative center built by the Chachapoya culture more than 1,500 years ago on a rocky mountain at over 3,000 meters above sea level. The site and its surroundings are visually stunning; its monumental architecture is a true display of power and mastery, and its location, among verdant cloud forests and deep valleys, offers a tranquil and intimate experience of history and nature.
